Dr. Kayvon Akbarian

Dr. Kayvon Akbarian earned his BS from Suffolk University in Boston, MA, where he majored and minored in psychology and pre-law, respectively. His focus on family and immigration law propelled him in attending law school for two years at Massachusetts School of Law in Andover, MA. Experiences in such areas of law helped him identify his true passion and go back to the field of mental health. He pursued a MA in Clinical Psychology (LMHC) at American International College. He gained experience as a crisis clinician, worked in residential programs, and worked in inpatient units to familiarize himself with the wide range of diagnoses and their symptomologies. Such experiences propelled him to pursue a doctorate in clinical psychology and earned his PsyD from William James College in Newton, MA.

While at William James College, he completed his Full-Time APA Consortium site in Springfield, Vermont at the Rural Vermont Collaborative of the Precision Valley, splitting time between the community health centers in Ludlow and Springfield, VT and at the Springfield School District. He received training within the school district, in an integrated primary care system, and assisted living and nursing facilities providing assessment, consultation, and interventions to address a diverse range of needs and populations. His training has helped him effectively treat individuals in a community-based and school setting utilizing evidence-based approaches; CBT (cognitive-behavior therapy), DBT (dialectical behavior therapy), Motivational Interviewing, Play & Art Therapy, and among others. He is excited to continue to be near his goal of licensure as a clinical psychologist and to provide a customized approach to both therapy and when conducting assessments.

"I believe that a different therapy must be constructed for each patient because each has a unique story." - Irvin D. Yalom
