In our ongoing series 'Clinician Spotlight,' we learn more about all the amazing clinicians here at Newton Neuropsychology Group. In this installment, we sit with Dr. Caitlyn Burns to learn more about her!
What made you want to pursue neuropsychology?
When I was in college and contemplating the direction I wanted to take professionally, one thing was clear: I had a passion for working with people. I explored various internship opportunities within academic settings and thought I may want to teach. During my junior year, I enrolled in a neuroscience course, which cemented my interest in the field. Initially, most of my clinical work was counseling focused, and I truly enjoyed all of the incredible people I met along the way. While maintaining a therapeutic mindset, conducting assessments has allowed me to provide individualized support tailored to the unique profiles of each person I meet.
What are your favorite things about this field?
What I value most is the endless opportunity for learning and growth. I often think of myself as a “forever student,” always looking to take in new knowledge and learning experiences. Each day is different from the last, presenting new opportunities and insights. I feel incredibly fortunate to meet so many people, each with their own unique stories and paths in life. That’s the part I love most.

What do you love most about NNG?
Everybody is incredibly welcoming, kind, and supportive. Each day that you come into the office, you know you will be in good company, with a team of professionals who have your best interests in mind. I appreciate each of the clinician’s openness to collaboration, as I am always interested in learning various perspectives.

What do you hope that clients can gain from working with you?
I hope that they leave with direction and clarity. I recognize that for some, heading into an evaluation can be nerve wracking and overwhelming. My goal is for families to walk away with a clear understanding of their results and practical recommendations, so they can move forward with confidence. Plus, it is always a bonus when the kiddos leave and say they had some fun!
Outside of work, what brings you the most joy?
My family! And as you can see through these pictures, my dogs! It does not matter if it is a beautiful summer day or a snowy winter storm, these dogs love to chase the ball as many times as you’re willing to throw it. I love low-key weekends, spending time outside, working on a puzzle, and catching up on the latest show.
